Census Report

Information passed on from from Carole

Mary Celeste Collins is my generations great, great grandmother. She married Edward Allen Bolmes. I have a bible that he gave to her. I will try to send pictures of that bible. She died very young around 1864 of yellow fever and was the mother of Amelia Aureola Bolmes "Ola" . Many of us have heard great stories of "Ola". Do you remember stories to share with us?

Happy Thanksgiving,
Cheryl

additional information

THIS IS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SENT BY CAROLE:

I did a quick research on Alfred Brashear last night on Ancestry.com and discovered his first name is Absalom. I have added it below in the email to you. His wife's name was listed as Eleanor (Nellie), not Ellender, but they did have a daughter named Ellender, so I don't know which is right.

I changed the spelling in Absalom McKenzie Brashear to match his grandfather, Alfred's, first name. I think the sa rather than so is probably correct.

Ola Belle's full name was Lula Ola Belle. The Lula and Ola obviously came from her two grandmothers' nicknames. Granddaddy Brashear's grandmother was nicknamed "Belle" from Isabella, so I'm assuming that is from where Ola Belle's name also was taken.

Publish the email below in which I have made additions and corrections since last night. My head is swimming right now with all of these Brashears to keep up with!

Robert George Brashear

THIS INFORMATION ON GRANDADDY BRASHEAR'S SIDE (Robert George Brashear - husband of Mary Celeste). Carole is busily tracking all the details about the lineage of Mary Celeste. Would anyone like to work on the ancestry of Robert George?  Be sure to comment on this blog so that I will know who is able to receive information through it.
HERE IS A NOTE FROM CAROLE.

Cheryl Ann:

We found this family tree info in your archival material when I was in Arlington. You made copies for me.

Absalom Alfred Brashear was born in Tennessee on Dec. 20, 1799. In about 1820 he married Ellender Ross in Hardin County, Tennessee. She was born on Jan. 10, 1801 or '04 and died in 1875. He died in about 1847 in Decatur County, Tennessee.
*After Absalom's death, Ellender lived for a time in McNairy County, Tennessee, with son George Ross Brashears. She migrated with a group of relatives to Crockett, Houston County, Texas, arriving on Christmas Day 1852.

One of their 7 children was George Ross Brashear, born Nov. 9, 1823 in Decaturville, Tennessee. He married Isabella Parilee "Belle" McKenzie, born in Purdy, Tennessee on June 25, 1830. They were married in Purdy on Dec. 5, 1848. George died in Crockett, TX in 1866.

George and Isabella produced 8 children, one of whom was Absalom McKenzie "Mack" Brashear, born on Sept. 23, 1851 in Tennessee and died Nov. 10, 1936 in Texas at age 85.

Mack married Susan Tallulah "Lula" Gossett, born in 1858 in S. Carolina. They are the parents of our grandfather, Robert George Brashear born on Oct. 10, 1876.

If we go back 2 generations from Absalom Alfred Brashear, we possibly will find a connection to the American Revolution on this side of the family, too.

Maybe someone would want to start tracking the Brashears while we're concentrating on Mary Celeste Shepperd's family lineage.

Later,

Carole
